The Secret of Castle McDowell
Nadine Romin's first novelette may induce the reader into a state of elusory safety. At first glance the heroine is nothing but an ordinary young Victorian woman. Amber is young, innocent and quite well-off. But soon it becomes obvious that this idyll is nothing but a glittering surface under which the proverbial abysses are lurking. In the course of the novel Amber has to learn that everything she was sure of, everything that seemed to have protected her, is nothing but an illusion. It is more than an illusion, it will guide her to the brink of death.
